Painted Fortune Cookies

With New Year’s Eve just a few days away, these painted fortune cookies are the perfect addition to your holiday party. The fun in a fortune cookie experience starts when you break it open, read the surprise message inside and get a laugh out of trying to apply it to your life. These cookies have been around for a long time and it’s only appropriate that we find more ways to make them enjoyable!

To make my life easier I used store bought fortune cookies- no shame when you are short on time. 😆 If you are feeling extra adventurous you can make these from scratch and slip in your own messages. Here’s what you’ll need:

Materials

Fortune cookies

Gel food colors

Edible glitter dust

Almond, lemon or coconut extract

Fine paint brushes

Toothpicks

Directions

Depending on your food color packaging, use a toothpick to place some food coloring onto a plate or squeeze a few drops onto a dinner plate. Add a few drops of extract to thin out the food coloring. Do not make a homebaker’s mistake like I did by using a foam plate. The alcohol in the extract will eat a hole in it.

Add some gold dust onto the plate and mix in a few drops of extract to make it paintable. Now you are ready to paint! You will need a fine paint brush for each color or you can use one brush and rinse in between colors.

Dip the brush in a lighter color and make small semicircular strokes to form the flowers. Go back in with a darker color to add definition. You can use the same technique for the greenery. To finish off, add a few gold highlights in and around the flowers. That’s it!

My sister-in-law said it best, “If you can’t make something from scratch, at least make it look cute!” Hope you enjoy this diy recipe and tag me on IG with your creation! @diy_bucket_list
