Monster Truck Birthday Party

It’s tough to have a birthday when the country is deep in quarantine mode, but we tried our best to have a monster truck birthday party for our three year old! He has a huge obsession with monster trucks and chose this theme months ago. Since we weren’t having any guests over, I tried to make it special with the decor, food and games.

I found the perfect corner to set up a dessert table and this huge book shelf was just right! So we moved the books and cleared the way for monster trucks. Starting from the top of the display I used a roll of light blue wrapping paper to create a backdrop. Then, I framed it with a huge monster truck balloon and a colorful balloon garland. I love how a balloon garland adds instant party fun!

For the treats, I took some pineapple rings and dipped them in melted chocolate to make monster truck “donuts”. In case you’re wondering, a monster truck donut is formed by the tracks of a truck when it spins around in a circle. That’s kind of where I was going with this.

I made a monster truck birthday cake with help from a store bought fudge cake. Decorating is really the best part of baking, so I like to use this shortcut when I can. I topped it with a huge dollop of chocolate frosting to make a dirt mound. Then sprinkled crushed Oreos on top to make dirt. I added a few junk cars, a monster truck on top, and a couple of orange cones. To make the cake more exciting, I added a few chocolate shards behind the monster truck to make it look like splashing mud!

Do you think he liked it?!

For the rest of the treats, I used cone shaped snacks since they look like orange cones and wheel shaped pretzels to stick with the theme. The pedestals were a DIY I put together and will share in a later post.

I decorated the rest of the bookcase with bottles of juice, spinning monster truck displays, more monster trucks, a couple of orange cones and some goody bags. These will be handed out to friends once we come out of hiding.

I also made a monster truck out of a cardboard box to double up as decor and a toy for him to play with!

We also played games with monster size toys. Like this giant bubble wand.

And, these monster size gears and screws.

Even though we couldn’t have our family and friends over, we tried our best to make it fun with the decor, food, and games. I think the joy on his face shows he approved! This photo will help me to remember when he turned three and monster trucks were his jam! Happy Birthday, my little man!
