Jet Setting

A Travel Theme Baby Shower

We had a travel theme baby shower for my sister-in-law who is expecting a baby boy!  Her husband is in aviation and they plan on naming him Jet.  So naturally, we called the shower, “Jet Setting!”

We went with a general travel theme to make the decor more simple and fun!  For the dessert table, I used white and blue curtains to create a sky and added a white balloon garland to make the clouds.  Then I flew a wooden plane with a sign labeled, “Jet Setting!”

For the desserts, I also tried to stick with the travel theme.  We made banana pudding boats and used a wooden spoon for the paddle.  Beside the banana boats, we made globe donut pops to look like the earth.  The macaroons were there just because they look cute on any dessert table.  LOL!

To make the cake, I got a little help from the grocery store and purchased a frosted two tiered cake.  Then, I customized it with with some gold painted continents I made from fondant.  I added a few clouds with extra icing to make it look more like we are flying in the sky. Then, I finished it off with my cake toppers!  The longest part of it was probably rolling out the fondant.  Whew!

I needed a way to add fruit to the desert table and keep to the theme.  So, I found a train cookie cutter to cut out fruit shapes.  It would probably work as a bear too depending how you decorate it.  I used pineapple and honeydew since they are easy to find and are large enough for cutting out the trains.  We chopped the leftover pieces from the train cutouts into tidbits and served them along with the trains to limit waste.

For the gift area, I wanted to create an airline check-in counter where the guests could drop off their “baggage.”  We called it “Jet Airlines.”  Boy, we sure are grateful to have so many people traveling with us.

I wanted to continue the travel theme onto the guest tables. To make the centerpieces, we wrapped cardboard boxes in map contact paper.  Then, we stacked a cardboard suitcase on top and added a few travel accent pieces.  For the place settings, I used a blue 9” plate and layered on a 7” white and gold dessert plate.  We added a blue tumbler with a  napkin insert and some gold utensils around the plates.

To thank our guests for coming, we packed travel theme candy inside a tiny suitcase favor box.

We also served heavy finger foods from around the world.  They included English tea sandwiches, Indian samosas, Asian coconut shrimp, French quiches and more!  I’m getting hungry reliving the shower through these photos!

In addition to the food, we had a few games and a diaper raffle to make sure our guests had a wonderful time. The shower was a huge success and we couldn’t have put it together without the help of so many dedicated people.  We also wouldn’t have a reason to party if it wasn’t for the expecting couple!  They are special to many of us and this was a chance for us to show them some love!

We hope they are well prepared as they go “Jet Setting” into the future!  We can’t wait to meet your little copilot!

  1. The is the most wonderful baby shower I have attended so far, and I have been to many. I might be a little bit biased though. From the big things (the guests) to the little things (the labeled Hershey kisses), everything counted and was well-done. I also especially loved: the international finger foods, cake, cake pops, pudding bowls, and centerpieces. What a phenomenal boss (Doua Lor Ly) n team who put this together!
