A Counting Game
My sister-in-law, Kaonu made this adorable number box to help my kids with counting. It’s filled with small containers labeled with numbers. The labels indicate the amount of mini trinkets or erasers inside. She’s even tried to personalize them with miniature things my kids adore. Let’s have some fun and open them up together!
When you open the box, you will find these tiny number containers. Numbers 1-10 are pictured here. Number 1 has a mini Cinderella carriage, number 2 has a mini toothbrush and a small toothpaste, and number 3 has a fast food meal trio. These are all some of my daughter’s favorite things, especially the toothbrush and toothpaste. Thank goodness!
Here are the number containers out of the box. I like how the 6 and the 9 have a line underneath to help us tell them apart. Kaonu mentioned she likes to have her kids trace the numbers to introduce them to writing, which is a brilliant idea! These usually need adult supervision since the pieces are tiny and they can easily be mixed up or lost. I usually allow them to only open up one at a time. But, I can’t speak for their dad.
You can see they are filled with all kinds of colorful and fun knick knacks. My kids love opening them and being surprised by the toys inside. They also love to feel the different textures and to play with them.
I’ve taken them out of the containers so you can really see how the pieces inside go along with the labels. My kids love these so much and squeal everytime I bring these out. One time, a few of the containers got mixed up and I was surprised my daughter knew how to organize them from memory. For example, the pompoms go with the number 7 and the crystals go with the number 6.
Although this number box was meant for counting, the kids have also learned different types of textures, expanded their vocabulary and used memory skills.
