10 Sec Royal Icing

There are so many royal icing recipes out there but I’ve tweaked this recipe to work for both outlining and filling in cookies.

Ingredients

2 egg whites

3 cups powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

3 tablespoons water

Directions

Sift the powdered sugar and cream of tartar through a fine mesh sieve. Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until it just stiffens. Add in the powdered sugar mixture slowly and reduce speed to low. Add the water and continue to mix. Slowly add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time until the right consistency is reached.

To check the consistency, stop the mixer and draw a line through the icing with a spatula. If it take 10 seconds for the line to disappear, it’s ready! Happy cookie decorating!

  1. I had the honor of tasting these valentine cookies, and the frosting is amazing. Like most frosted sugar cookies, I expected it to be overly sweetened. I was wrong. It’s so much better than store-bought or bakery or pre-packaged cookies. The frosting was perfect- not too sweet but still so delicious. I could have eaten 5 in a row easily. These cookies are so festive and cute too. I’d love to buy a dozen of them in assorted colors/messages. What a great gift for cookie lovers.
