Crayon Eggs

There are so many exciting things to look forward to in spring and crayon eggs are a fun way to make egg dying eggstra special for Easter! Those nontoxic crayons you already have lying around can be used for this simple activity. Yes, even the broken crayons will work as long as they are nontoxic. The kids will have fun personalizing and doodling on these eggs!

Materials

Hard boiled eggs

Nontoxic crayons (like Crayola)

1 PAAS egg dying kit

Directions

I used this boiled eggs recipe from Better Homes at Gardens. Makes perfect eggs everytime and it has been my favorite way to boil eggs on a stovetop. Allow the eggs to cool to room temperature.

While the eggs are cooling, you can set up the egg dying kit. I just followed the instructions on the box. It calls for vinegar, water and a color tablet that’s included. My kids thought it was fun to watch the color tablets fizz and dissolve!

Once the eggs are cooled, grab the crayons and start drawing on the eggs. When you are happy with your egg-cellent masterpieces, it’s time for their color baths.

I wanted a lighter color on the eggs so I only left them in for 1-2 minutes. The pink, however took a little longer to get to the right shade. The kit comes with a metallic tool you can bend to help lower and lift the eggs into the dye. You can place them on a paper towel to dry.

One thing I found out about my daughter was that she really liked boiled eggs! Sometimes it can be hard to find healthy foods that toddlers will eat with no resistance. I enjoy doing these activities with my kids to spend time with them and I love that it helps me learn new things about them!
