I wanted to make an easy custom marquee sign for my sister-in-law’s vintage pin up bachelorette party.  We put this sign over the burger bar for a diner-like setting.

After combing through various DIY marquee signs, I was disappointed there wasn’t anything easy enough for me to try.  Then, the idea came to me while walking through Micheals.

Here’s what I used:

1 sturdy poster board (foam board or cardboard could work too)

2 sheets of scrapbook paper of your choice (get 2 extra for backup)

1 sheet of scrapbook paper for trim (may want 1 extra just in case)

large glittery letter stickers (these were 5.5 inches tall)

4 boxes Artskills poster lights (or white Christmas lights)

Directions:

Cut poster board into 10.5 in x 33 in size or desired dimensions.  Cut scrapbook paper into 1.5 in width strips for trim.  Use glue stick to attach scrapbook book paper.  Make sure to cover the entire back of the paper with glue before placing it on the poster board for an even and strong bond.

Place letter stickers onto the covered poster board.  Mark on the letters where you would like the holes for the lights to be inserted.  Use a drill to make holes through the board.  Make sure the holes are just large enough for a snug fit around the light bulbs.

To hold up the poster, I made two poster stands using this design.  This is not drawn to size but it gives you an idea.

I used two of these poster stands for each of the signs I made.  Here is the finished look.

Place lights through the holes and watch the magic happen.
